I found myself waking up to my shaking house. Earthquakes weren't rare where I lived, Los Angeles. But the force of this quake was growing and growing. Things flew of tables, pictures fell from the wall, and windows were shattering. I ran to my parent's room and found them just waking up and my sister running in with me. Once they finally got to sense of what was happening they yelled to run downstairs and go under the kitchen table. After we got down there the earthquake ended a minute after. It felt like an hour. Most of our house was destroyed and we went outside to check on the neighbors. One thing I thought of is how close we live to the coast, as that thought was going through my head I hear the tsunami sirens go off. I ran to my parents and asked them what we should do, they said to run upstairs and go on the roof, but I knew that wasn't high enough. My sister suggested that we get in the car and drive to higher ground, but traffic would just stop us. We ended up driving as far as we could and ditched our car. Once we saw a tall office building we ran as fast as we could. We ran up the stairs to the top. What was nice at the top of the building we could keep an eye on the ocean to see what was coming. All of our stomachs dropped as soon as we saw a a wave far out into the ocean. When you see a tsunami in a movie is different but to see a wave that can kill thousands of people in person. I had a feeling that being able to see the water wasn't so nice anymore. It made us feel like we weren't far enough from the coast but we didn't have enough time to go anywhere else. So we had to sit an watch and wait. It was the most anticipating thing ever.
Once the wave hit we went to the back of the of building and held onto the pillars so we wouldn't get thrown when we felt the impact. Watching the wave knock down all the buildings was a like playing dominoes and I got scared to see if this building could withstand the wave. When the wave hit the building shook, the windows shattered. The building was on an angle leaning on another building. The water started to rise and the first couple of floors we submerged under water. We ran to the stairs and looked to see if there was a rooftop. There was so we ran up because the water kept on rising. When we got to the rooftop, seeing the city now was crazy. There were fires, cars and houses swept away. It looked like a scene out of a movie. My dad told us to wait out here until anything else happened. When we watched the water recede it took all of its destruction with it, people, cars, houses, and buildings.
