Graduation Speech

Good evening everyone, family and friends of graduates, staff of gms, and most importantly the graduating class of 2018. Today we are saying our final goodbyes to the District of 67 and the school that has made us who we are today, Golf Middle School. . 9 years ago, I walked into my first day of kindergarten starting my time with district 67. Waking up to watching Mickey Mouse and coming home to watch Disney Channel because my only homework was to maybe color in a picture. My problems then were so innocent and little, even in 4th grade being 5 minutes late to lunch because of a grumpy recess supervisor was my main problem, that's now just funny to look back on. Even then I just wanted to grow up not knowing I was throwing away while doing that. I have learned that to enjoy every minute I have as a kid because of the district 67 because it will make the future that much better.
Up until about a couple weeks ago or like 2 days ago it’s been a fantasy I couldn’t think of us graduating really happening anytime soon. Now here I am surrounded by friends and family ending my time here and going to start a new chapter in high school. My years at golf have brought me homework, terrible test, but probably the most funny moments of my life. From the plays we did in Gilman and ending up watching Isar and Mr. Gilman use pool noodles to sword battle on the last day of school which I bet someone can find in their old Snapchat memories. Then to this year having Mrs. Joyner telling us earlier in the year when a railroad crossing guard found its way to landing on the hood of her car. I could always expect a new thing to happen to send me out of a chair laughing. Golf has taught me more than just Math and English it has helped to teach me what I really need with me, it has helped me find the people I can spend everyday with and not get bored with them or their dumb jokes that keep me laughing. Golf has brought me to the teachers that each have their own way to making their class fun, from Mr. Atwood making us hype to run the mile or Mr. Carro giving us life lessons about insurance or how to tip a waiter with out looking ungrateful.
Drake once said, “ Sometimes it's the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination.” I’m in 8th grade and still don’t know where I am going to end up in life but Golf has put me on a path to make me the best person I can be and that is the most important thing everyone can take from our school. Golf has taught me being the best at something doesn’t mean that you don’t need to have drive, it has taught me falling behind doesn’t mean you still can’t catch up and win. Now we have to bring that to high school and beyond with our lives. Golf Middle School will always be our home and will always have a place in our hearts. So now lets celebrate this milestone in our lives and give a huge round of applause to the class of 2018, thank you.
